From the dirty rural land of Starkville, MS aka (Stark Vegas) where a place of Football dreams run rapidly high by way of Mississippi State University. This time we are not dreaming for pigskins and football helmets, but more so a musical career. Also a place overlook for it’s musical talent… Well the wait is over and a new kid is on the block and ready for action. Rap Star Phenomenon King Supreme is here to make you think other wise
JM: Hey how are you?
KS: Um good!! Blessed and thankful for the opportunity to have my first solo mixtape “Almost Famous” released on the web this January.
JM: How did you acquire the Rap Name? What Label/Independent Label are you with currently?
KS: Well my name started off as Young Supreme given to me by my best friend who I grew up with “Young Severe”. We both eventually dropped the young after we became older than 21. I added King to Supreme last year after feeling like I carry the weight for my team LIT. LIT is my promotion team that I am currently with as a label. They believed in me first, as an artist, so that’s why you will hear about them everywhere I go.
JM: How long have you been rapping?
KS: I been rapping since I was a freshman in high school, but I started recording mixtapes when I got to college my freshman year around 2005.
JM: What is your hometown?
KS: I’m from Starkville, MS aka Stark Vegas. “Home of the Bulldogs”
JM: How long does it take you to record song? Describe your process….
KS: It depends on the beat, because most times if I really feel the beat it doesn’t take me more than a day to write the song. I always write songs before I go record them because I never had a studio of my own to just create the song at that specific place I record. Good studio time is expensive so I can’t waste a minute while um there recording. I rehearse the song so much before I record it that I can predict how it will sound once the engineer is done mixing.
JM: What music inspires you ? Any artist you look up to outside of your music genre?
KS: I grew up listening to a lot of rap and r&b tracks. My uncle was a famous blues artist by the name of “Little Milton” so its in my blood to be song writer. I always enjoyed real story telling songs that examined the artist background. If you can relate to an artist then you will appreciate there music and want to hear more from them.
JM: What is your plan for music? Such as the role you want to play in the music game and so on…
KS: I always wanted to put my city (Starkville) on the map with my songs because it is so much talent in that area that gets overlooked. It’s a small town full of people with big dreams that have limited resources to make those goals happen. I want to be a inspirational artist that can set a positive example in people of all ages lives to be better in whatever they choose to do.
JM: What category does your music fall into? Such as market, demographics, age and etc?
KS: I would say that I speak for everyone my age (24) or around my generation that is trying to be independent. Most older adults sometimes can relate because they have been through what I’m going through. My music is also appealing to people younger than me because of my bold approach that makes you feel empowered to do whatever you want to do your way.
JM: Do you have any children?
KS: No. I’m young with none.
JM: What artist would you like to work with in future? Have you work with anyone in the industry as of now?
KS: I have yet to work with any mainstream artist, but I know eventually that will happen. I wouldn’t mind working with artist like Lil Wayne, Lloyd Banks, Wale, or Lil Boosie. Its plenty more artist that would do features with but those people are at the top of my list to work with.
JM: Does politics inspire your music as well if so how?
KS: I think politics inspires my music because of our recent historical moment in America with Barack Obama. His fearless mindset is motivation that gives me courage to be myself when I write songs. If I can stand out by acknowledging the problems around me then maybe my music can help change the world.
JM: What artist is being played in your car radio at this very moment?
KS: I been shuffling between the new Lloyd Banks- Hunger for More 2, Kanye West- My dark twisted fantasy, and Rick Ross- Ashes to Ashes
JM: How do you feel about music artists for 2011? Who is being very successful right now?
KS: At the present moment I admire Wiz Khalifa and Wale for keeping hip hop alive. The most successful artist right now has to be Rick Ross just because everywhere you go somebody has one of his tracks in rotation from the radio to the club.
JM: What makes your route different in hip/hop than any other musical artist?
KS: My route in hip hop is different because I had to create my own sound without any guidance from someone with experience. I had to learn from my previous mixtapes which songs work for my image that kept people listening. I also had to learn that every beat that sounds good doesn’t mean I should rap over it. Once I developed my imaged on waxed from recording with various producers, It helped me gained confidence in what I do.
JM: How many albums & mixtapes have you published ?
KS: I have recorded one album (Brothaz-N-Da-Struggle with Young Severe) and 2 mixtapes with D.Y.G.(Death Before Dishonor and Da General and Da Chief)
JM: What is your favorite Album/Mixtape of all time including yours and other artist you listen too?
KS: My favorite album of all time has to be 2pac- Me against the world. I am a big fan of the late 2pac, who is one of my favorite MCs. That album had me zoning at the age of 10 like WOW!!! My favorite song from that album was “It aint easy”.
JM: What is your goal for the year of 2011 & only 2011? (Such as projects and etc)
KS: I plan on releasing at least 2 to 3 more mixtapes before the end of the year to stay relevant as an artist. For now I’m pushing “Almost Famous” to get more buzz, because a lot of people still don’t know I rap and I’ve been recording since 2005. I hope to grow more with the label L.I.T. (Lost In Thought) and put the music magnifying glass on Ms.
JM: How can your fans reach you or listen to any of your tracks? Such as (Twitter, Facebook, Reverbnation, Myspace) and etc….
KS: You can follow me on twitter @KingSupreme86. I have songs and videos on youtube, just search King Supreme. My new mixtape is on Livemixtapes, Datpiff.com, Mixtapetorrent, and mixtapewire.com.
JM: Word to Wise…… (Any special advise to tell your fans or competition)
KS: If you want to do something in life start working towards it now. Stay humble, focus, and pray every night then the rest will fall in place. Think Big and Dream Big!!!! 100
